How about we… check out an art gallery neither of us has visited before.
How about we… check out some photography at City Gallery and then take our own pictures around the city.
How about we… take in live music and exhibit browsing at the Getty's Saturdays Off The 405. We can join a Spotlight after Dark tour of the galleries, for a quick exploration of current exhibits. Select dates during the summer; check the event calendar for details.
How about we… wander through a local art gallery and grab dinner at a forgotten about restraunt with amazing food.
How about we… Agree to never go to a gallery to "admire the arts".
How about we… check out some amazing photography at the John Cleary Gallery.
How about we… spend the afternoon exploring the art galleries at Bergamot Station.
How about we… grab a lunch at a cafe... maybe take a walk to gallery.
How about we… grab a drink at the bakery near Lamar and go check out some of the art galleries on west 5th and 6th street.

Art history isn't just for debutantes - I made a career out of it. I went to school at Barnard and after I graduated I worked for a big fancy gallery for six years before quitting to go out on my own, write for magazines and work for a curator. Working backwards, I grew up on Long Island and lived in the same house from age 0-18. I was a huge nerd (think Welcome to the Dollhouse) until high school when I turned quasi-bad-girl and stayed a little wild through college and my early twenties. Now at the ripe old age of 28 I am really happy, adventurous without being rebellious and nerdy without the big glasses.
I was born and raised in NYC, so I've seen and done a lot around here. Suggestions below are, for the most part, activities I haven’t yet tried but would love to experience. Drop me a line if any of them are of interest to you. 1) Check out Sunday Night Film Club at The Crosby Hotel http://www.firmdale.com/index.php?page_id=31&sub_page_id=161©_page_id=588 2) Have a drink on the private rooftop garden at the Surrey Hotel http://www.luxist.com/2010/06/03/the-surrey-hotel-debuts-a-rooftop-english-garden/ 3) ride the new thrill rides (including Steeplechase) at Coney Island's Luna Park (http://www.lunaparknyc.com/) then grab beer and pizza at either (or both) of NYC's arguably best pizza restaurants - totonnos/L&B Spumoni Gardens) 4) Check out a spa castle (5 floors of Korean massages, saunas and pools) - http://nyspacastle.com/eng/main/main.php 5) Take a Zipcar and drive up to Walkway Over the Hudson (former railroad bridge spanning the Hudson that has been transformed into one of the longest pedestrian bridges with magnificent views of the Hudson River) http://www.walkway.org/ - could also be combined with drive up to Bard College (beautiful campus, concerts, etc) 6) Hasid Meets Hipster Meets Girdle Store – start off with a quick walk around the Lower East Side (Donut Plant, pickle store, girdle store of your choice) then over the Williamsburg Bridge to explore Williamsburg (Hasid and Hipster sides) 7) Behind the Scenes Tour of Yankee Stadium or Citi Field 8) Take a Zipcar and drive up to Hunter Mountain for their new Zipline adventure (http://www.huntermtn.com/huntermtn/summer-activities/zipline.aspx) 9) Take Metro-North to New Canaan to see Philip Johnson’s Glass House 10) Explore Old Westbury Gardens http://www.oldwestburygardens.org/ 11) Zipcar out to Atlantic City for the day 12) ping pong and drinks at www.spinyc.com 13) Walk the newly opened Section 2 of the Highline and then check out Beer Parc and Grimaldis in Limelight Marketplace 14) see Luis Gispert's Decepcion at Mary Boone Gallery http://www.maryboonegallery.com/ 15) Enjoy a cocktail at XVI rooftop lounge in midtown - www.xviny.com 16) Check out the Greenwich Village Country Club - a "caddyshack" inspired playground complete with indoor mini-golf course (on top of Bowlmor Union Square) 17) Check out the Ipad based cocktail ordering system at Gowanus, Brooklyn cocktail emporium Whiskey, Tango Foxtrot - wtf-brooklyn.com 18) grab a drink in the East Village (Death & Company, PDT or The Summit Bar)
Ditch Plains beach in Montauk, NY. Lake Placid, NY is stunning. Also, the gallery district of San Jose del Cabo in Mexico.
I was born in Queens, and grew up mostly in suburban NJ. Studied Art History (after changing my major from Pre-Med/Psychology), and worked at an NYC art gallery for 4 years. Attended the Natural Gourmet Institute for Health and Culinary Arts, and am now a Personal Chef specializing in health-supportive, organic cuisine.
I have five back up careers that are still in the running if I decide to switch occupations: 1) Cathedral restoration expert 2) Sommelier 3) Zoo Chef 4) Gallery Owner / Bakery Owner 5) Freedom Fighter (Secret Agent or PI one of the two)
Born in the Midwest, grew up in Florida, but a New Yorker at heart:) Moved to Brooklyn last month (after 5 years in Manhattan) and loving it. I value sense of humor, creativity and good conversation. Love exploring the city....restaurants, bars, films, parks, galleries, coffee shops, farmers markets etc.
About the time that Cameron Diaz came into my gallery and I had to be completely straight faced
If I could be any building in the city (I'm a native New Yorker), I'd choose the Chrysler- who doesn't love Art Deco- or maybe my favorite brownstone off Lexington Avenue. I've been passionate about architecture and fine art since childhood- I grew up spending a lot of my weekends at the Met with a sketchbook. Since college I've worked in the art world, first at Christie's and now at a gallery. I’d say I’m a bit old fashioned- I definitely prefer phone calls to emails and old movies to blockbusters (especially Hitchcock). I'm really looking forward to fall and taking drives to see the foliage.
I'm an avid far-flung traveller and am fortunate to have visited 40 countries throughout Europe, the Middle East and Asia. Per each region, briefly, some of my favorite destinations have included: the Uffizi Gallery in Florence, Italy; the Pyramids in Giza, Egypt; the Taj Mahal in Agra, India; and basically, all of the ornate temples in Bangkok, Thailand.
I've had the chance to travel a lot. some of the most memorable, a Redwood forest right outside of Medocino. One art gallery owner I met called it the "Enchanted Forest", and she was right. Let me see, others that rank up there... -The top of Table Mountain in Cape Town and Soweto in Johannesburg -The top of the Space Needle in Seattle -The Tower of London.
